Having spent the last few years working on this book I can honestly say that Eddie Fowlie is without doubt one of the most interesting and enigmatic people I’ve ever met. Although he retired from films in the mid 1990s (his last film project was 'Beyond Rangoon' with Patricia Arquette) Eddie still gets regular calls from film makers in Hollywood asking for advice on many aspects of movie-making.
Eddie's a person who has never courted fame or publicity, which is why I felt a tremendous sense of pride when he asked me to help him co-write his autobiography.
Eddie’s testimony and inside knowledge of some of the biggest and most memorable films ever made is invaluable, more so now that the other ‘Dedicated Maniacs’ who worked with David Lean - including Robert Bolt, Freddie Young and John Box - have all passed away.
